A big part of education is to expose our kids to a world that is not just different, creatively or culturally, but socially and economically, and the best way to teach our kids to appreciate all the blessings we have enjoyed is to immerse ourselves in places that can remind us of exactly that!

So we’ve partnered with our friends at Care Corner Orphanage Foundation, a Singaporean-run home for orphaned and underprivileged Thai children, based in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

Care Corner Orphanage Foundation was established in 1995 by Pastor Ricky Tan and his wife, Lay Hwa. Their vision was to create a nurturing environment and provide a holistic education based on Christian principles for underprivileged children in Northern Thailand. Over the past 29 years, the orphanage has cared for more than a thousand children, many of whom come from broken families and are at risk of being involved in drugs or prostitution, or have had no access to formal education. The founders believe that by providing a supportive and healthy environment, these children can break free from the cycle of poverty.

In this camp, the parent-child will go on an adventure with the local community to explore the unique creative, cultural and nature elements of the city.

What Will My Kids Learn?

Over the course of three days, we will observe, wonder, and create together. We will slow down, take inspiration from the nature that surrounds us, and gain insights of the culture from the stories of this island.

*Subject to change / weather conditions

  • In Lanna culture, bamboo weaving is a fundamental craft. Children learn it during their downtimes, often with the elders of the village. At its core, this craft fosters patience and gears the maker’s mind to cherish the refined and detail-oriented nature that Lanna and Thai crafts call for. Beginners start with weaving stars, crickets, and horses, while the teachers often tell tales of how we choose to live in harmony with nature. This craft may seem easy, but with years of experience, one can weave fans, baskets, and bamboo sculptures of dragons in the size of up to two meters for festivals and fairs.

  • Lights and fires hold pivotal significance in Lanna culture, symbolizing hope and moments of wisdom attainment, whether through problem-solving or creative inspiration. Lanna culture values community, with fairs and festivals often held during the full moon. A decade ago, lanterns played a crucial role in lighting pathways from homes to the town center. The craft of making lanterns involved shaping bamboo, gluing mulberry paper, and decorating it appropriately.

  • Children will be engaged in short session of podcast conversations. The discussions will range from sharing personal stories to expressing their unique perspectives, allowing the children to develop their communication skills and confidence in articulating their thoughts.

  • Armed with a camera in hand, children will capture the beautiful nature of Chiang Mai and their favourite memories before printing them out onto their explorer notebooks.

They came, they loved it! ☻

Helen Clare Rozario,
mother of Sophie Clare, 7 years old

“The mere fact that Sophie Clare, as a neurodivergent child, gifted with ADHD and Dyslexia, showed interest in writing on the first day of the programme truly surprised me and touched my heart. It offered compelling insight into alternative, more effective learning methods when creativity was incorporated for her.

The facilitators were professional, respectful, and had an intuitive connection with the children. Although I wasn't present, this was noticed when Sophie Clare discussed how the day went and observed through her interactions with the facilitators during drop-off and pick-up. The way she interacted with them clearly reflected the level of trust and comfort she felt with them.

Despite the drop-off requirement, the whole experience significantly transformed both of us and further strengthened our already close mother-daughter bond. It also unlocked another level of independence and autonomy for her, and the act of letting go for me. I am also pretty pleased with the fact that I was able to work productively with a peace of mind and ease while she was engaged in the camp. I even managed to do some sightseeing on my own during free moments when I wasn't working.”

Gurmit and Denise,
parents of Trent, 8 years old

“What we initially thought would be wholly indoors turned out to be a very interactive and eye opening programme that consisted of storytelling, hiking, photography, marine life exploration, and a unique hands-on experience using unripe persimmon juices as dye. Trent’s imagination and curiosity were stoked and inspired by the engaging facilitators who were encouraging cheerleaders pushing the boundaries of creativity and uplifting his confidence. The facilitators were always on hand to update parents at pick up time.

Trent truly was sad when it ended, which only goes to show how much fun he had making new memories and friends, and absorbing the world beyond Singapore.”
